Ice hockey is played between two teams of six players who skate on a ice rink. Skaters must run a puck with a long stick to try and score in the opponent’s goal. In the end, the team has scored most goals wins.

In the wake of the video game industry, companies have developed games across a wide range of genres, including snowboarding.

01. SSX Tricky 

Though it is not a particularly realistic game, you can still play as one of several different snowboarders in up to twelve different arenas. SSX Tricky is the second game in a long series developed and published by Electronic Arts. It is available the Sony PlayStation 2, the Nintendo GameCube, the Xbox and the Nintendo Game Boy Advance.

02. Amped 

Amped is a three-title series released by Microsoft. The three titles, available for the Xbox and Xbox 360, include Amped: Freestyle Snowboarding, Amped 2 and Amped 3. No new titles are available yet.

03. Shaun White Snowboarding 

Developed under the name of the famous snowboarder, Shaun White, you can play Shaun White Snowboarding games on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 2, PC and Nintendo DS. New titles continue to be added to the series.

04. 1080 Avalanche 

Available exclusively on the Nintendo GameCube, 1080 Avalanche was a huge hit when it released on October 28, 2003. Today, it still holds up well as a good snowboarding game. (more…)

Find Your Stance
There are two different stances: Regular and Goofy. Regular means your left foot is forward, goofy means your right foot is forward. You usually tell what stance you are by putting on some socks and sliding across a smooth floor. Whichever foot is in front will be in front on the snowboard. Another way is to be pushed forward. Whichever foot moves forward to regain balance will be the front foot on the snowboard.

Fall Safely
Falling while snowboarding is an inevitability. It may hurt a little but there are ways to help reduce the impact. Whenever possible, try to aim the fall uphill, it will reduce the fall time and help stop momentum. When falling in an uphill direction is not possible, try to relax and roll with the fall. Resisting a fall is an easy way to get hurt.

Learn to Stop
Stopping is one of the most important skills in snowboarding. Make sure to practice it often before hitting a challenging trail. Stopping can be done by turning the snowboard perpendicular to the slope. In other words, turn so the points of the board are no longer facing downhill and are facing the sides of the slope. Outdoor ice skating is a breathtaking activity that combines the beauty of the snowy outdoors with the majestic movements of skating. However, always make sure the ice they’re skating on is thick enough to be safe. Skating is no fun if you’re not being safe on the ice.

If you want to try something more calming, it’s always fun to look for paw prints in the snow to see if you can discover what kind of wildlife has been where you are traveling. Hiking is also wonderful to get some exercise and take a moment out to appreciate the outdoors.
